  • Review school lists and plan your Back to School shop. Check what you already have, what can be reused, and write your list. Do this for school bags, uniforms, lunch needs, stationery, and school book lists.
  • Set your Back to School budget- review what you need and set a budget per child.
  • Start a tub of Back to School supplies for each child- this keeps everything together and makes preparing for the first day easier!
  • Research online to plan your shopping trips- this saves time spent in-store and time googling to price check.
  • Talk to your kids about lunches and different menu options. This may also influence what type of lunch box you need.
  • Buy ahead. Don’t leave buying kits like uniforms, shoes or even stationery till the last minute. Being prepared early can mean you also take advantage of sales and save you money.
  • Lunch gear. So, you have bought your lunch box and water bottle- great job! But do you have an insulated lunch bag and gel ice to keep lunches cool and food safe?
  • Label everything. Use permanent laundry markers for clothes and shoes, but our SMASH Personalised Lunch Stickers double up brilliantly for use on pencil cases, bags, and books
  • Get your kids back into a school sleep routine- this will make the first week back easier on everyone.
  • Plan the route. If your child is off to a new school (especially the transition from primary to secondary), plan the route with them if they’re walking or catching the bus themselves. If you’re still ferrying them to and fro, then to keep the atmosphere stress-free, plan the time to leave the house, especially if you’ve got different drop-offs for different kids!
  • COVID-19. Your child’s school should be in regular contact to update you on regulations and give guidance, but you can also find information on your local council’s website or the government’s website https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus/education-and-childcare
